Liverpool shaken by Arne Slot’s transfer request after this season’s treatment
A Liverpool player is said to want to leave because he’s unhappy with how head coach Arne Slot is treating him, but his move depends on a teammate. With Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson already confirmed to leave, Liverpool will likely be busy in this summer’s transfer window. The team wants to improve after a tough season where they finished fifth, which has added pressure on Slot.
Last summer, Liverpool spent nearly £450 million on new signings like Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Florian Wirtz. Sadly, only Ekitike did well before getting an Achilles injury in April. The others, including Isak, Frimpong, and Wirtz, also struggled with injuries. Goalkeeper Alisson missed 12 Premier League games due to injury, giving Giorgi Mamardashvili from Georgia a chance to play 20 matches in total.
But Mamardashvili isn’t happy being the backup, as Slot wants Alisson to stay as first-choice goalkeeper next season. So, Mamardashvili is interested in a loan move. Reports say Serie A champions Inter might be a good fit, and Juventus could also be an option, though they’re interested in Alisson as well.
Whether Mamardashvili goes on loan depends on if Alisson stays at Liverpool. Journalist Fabrizio Romano shared some updates on his YouTube channel on May 27. He said Liverpool recently told Alisson they don’t want him to leave, so the deal with Juventus is off for now. It’s still early, and things could change, but right now, Alisson and Liverpool have a great relationship, and he doesn’t want to hurt his legacy there.
If Alisson stays, it’s possible Mamardashvili will go on loan to get more playing time before coming back in 2027 as Liverpool’s main goalkeeper, replacing Alisson. The club is focused on keeping Alisson, even though Juventus has made a big offer. Mamardashvili, who expected to be first choice next season, is under contract until 2031 and reportedly earns £85,000 a week, making him the 15th highest-paid player at Liverpool.
