Arne Slot speaks out just minutes after Liverpool let him go

Just minutes after it was announced that Arne Slot was no longer Liverpool’s head coach, he shared a message with the fans.

Slot’s two years at Anfield ended on Saturday, May 30. He did great in his first season by winning the Premier League in 2025, but last season didn’t go as well. Liverpool didn’t win any trophies and barely made it into the Champions League by finishing fifth.

The club released a detailed statement about letting Slot go, calling it a tough choice. They thanked him for everything he did, saying his work was important and successful, and praised his strong work ethic and leadership.

Liverpool also praised how Slot handled the team during the hard time after Diogo Jota’s tragic passing, showing a lot of kindness and care. They wished him the best for his future coaching career and said his time at Liverpool will always be remembered positively.

The club explained that this change was needed to take the team in a new direction—not because they didn’t respect Slot or his talents. They are grateful for all he achieved, including the Premier League title, and said he and his family will always be welcome at Anfield.

Andoni Iraola, who recently led Bournemouth to a sixth-place finish, is the top candidate to take over.

Right after the news came out, journalist Fabrizio Romano shared a short message from Slot to Liverpool fans: “It’s been an amazing ride together with Liverpool. I am so grateful that we were able to win the league last season.”
