A self-titled psychic who’s guessed three of the last four World Cup winners has shared his pick for this summer’s tournament in the US, Mexico, and Canada.

Michael Bruno, from Brazil, has a good track record. Before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he said Spain would win the trophy for the first time – and they did, thanks to Andres Iniesta’s late goal in extra time against the Netherlands.

He also correctly predicted Germany’s victory in 2014 and France’s win over Croatia in 2018. But in 2022, he thought France would keep their title. Instead, France lost in a penalty shootout to Argentina.

Even so, Bruno is back with a new prediction for this year’s event. In an interview with Globo Esporte, he said, “Since 2022, I’ve been saying the next champion will be Portugal.”

That’s right! After naming France, Spain, England, Argentina, Portugal, and Brazil as contenders, Bruno believes Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal will win their first-ever World Cup on July 19.

He also thinks defending champ Argentina will be knocked out in the quarter-finals, and Brazil will be eliminated early too — partly because Neymar might not be fully fit. “I don’t think Neymar is 100% ready. If he plays, Brazil may get eliminated before the semis because the team relies too much on him,” Bruno explained.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who will play in his 13th major international tournament this summer, is in Roberto Martinez’s squad, along with Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Neves, Pedro Neto, and Rafael Leao.

One surprise is West Ham’s Matheus Fernandes missing out after a strong season, and Tottenham’s Joao Palhinha has also been left off the team.
