Julián Álvarez’s move to Barcelona might bring him back together with star player Mikel Arteta at Arsenal in an exciting big transfer.

If Julian Alvarez moves from Atletico Madrid to Barcelona, Arsenal could get a big boost by signing a top striker who might help them become the best team in the Premier League next season.

Even though Arsenal lost 4-3 on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on May 30, manager Mikel Arteta can be proud of leading the team to their first Premier League title since 2004.

The club is already planning for next season, with the summer transfer window opening on June 15. Even though it’s not official yet, teams are already making deals. For example, Newcastle and Barcelona agreed on Anthony Gordon’s £69.2 million move to Barcelona last Friday.

Barcelona is also linked with trying to keep Marcus Rashford on loan permanently and made a £77.9 million offer for Atletico’s Alvarez, though Atletico say they never got an official bid.

Alvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City in 2024 for £81 million and has scored 49 goals with 17 assists in 106 games under Diego Simeone. PSG has shown some interest, but recent reports say they might be losing that interest.

TEAMtalk says Ferran Torres’ future at Barcelona might depend on whether Alvarez joins. If Alvarez comes, Torres could leave, which has caught the attention of Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, and Aston Villa. Torres, like Alvarez, used to play for City and worked with Arteta when he was a coach there. He was a key player in Barcelona’s recent La Liga win, scoring 21 goals and three assists last season.

Torres, 26, is reportedly frustrated about Alvarez possibly coming because he doesn’t want to play second fiddle and might look to move this summer. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick and the club want to sign Rashford, which could mean even less playing time for Torres if the deal happens.

Arteta has admired Torres for a long time and has a good connection with him from their time at City. After the Champions League final, reporter David Ornstein said that signing a left-sided attacker like Torres is a top priority for Arsenal this summer. Torres can play on both wings, even though he’s mainly a forward.

On TNT Sports, Ornstein said Arsenal is in a great financial spot to spend big for the 2026/27 season. He explained, “Arsenal is making a lot of money now. It’s a golden period, which wasn’t always the case. After moving to the Emirates, they struggled and often sold their best players to stay profitable. But in recent years, thanks to the Kroenke family backing Arteta, they invested heavily and even put in their own money. They wanted success now, and it’s starting to pay off.”

Outside England, Como’s coach Cesc Fabregas is also a fan of Torres and wants him at his Serie A club, which will play in the Champions League for the first time.

Torres is under contract with Barcelona until 2027 and reportedly earns about €250,000 (£216,000) a week, including bonuses.
