Big Premier League clubs are stepping in to try and steal Ibrahima Konate from Real Madrid in a surprising transfer twist!

Ibrahima Konate is now being linked to a surprising Premier League club after leaving Liverpool, even though many expect him to join Real Madrid.

Konate came to Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 and is now leaving the club as his contract ends this month. He has had a great five years at Anfield, helping Liverpool win four big trophies – the Premier League, FA Cup, and the Carabao Cup twice.

Since Konate’s contract is up, his next team won’t have to pay a transfer fee, with the French defender set to join as a free agent.

On May 31, Konate shared a heartfelt message saying he was “deeply saddened” to leave the 20-time English champions. He even said he didn’t know the last Premier League game against Brentford would be his final one.

“At that moment, I didn’t realize it would be my last time playing in front of you,” he said. “Anfield is such a special place, and playing here was something I always appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you all and will carry Liverpool with me wherever I go. This isn’t an easy goodbye, but it’s time for a new challenge and a new chapter.”

Konate had talked about signing a new contract with Liverpool, but they couldn’t agree on terms like wages and valuation, so he decided to leave.

The French player, picked for Didier Deschamps’ 26-man World Cup squad, has been linked with Real Madrid for a while. Spanish news says Real’s president Florentino Perez is ready to sign him.

Other reports say Real’s interest goes back four years, and that Konate also has offers from Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Manchester United. Konate is said to prefer moving to Real Madrid, especially after talks with their soon-to-be coach Jose Mourinho.

If Konate joins Manchester United, he’d be the first player to move directly from Liverpool to Man United since Phil Chisnall in 1964.

Besides Konate, Real Madrid is also interested in players like Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni, Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, Manchester City’s Ruben Dias and Rodri, PSG’s Joao Neves, and Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck.

Here’s Konate’s message to Liverpool fans:

“Dear Liverpool,
Five years ago, I came here as a young player with big dreams. Now, I leave with memories that will stay with me forever.
It’s been an honor to represent this club. We’ve shared amazing moments together—highs, lows, trophies, challenges, lifelong friendships, and heartbreaks, especially losing our brother Diogo.
Losing my father this year was very hard, but no matter what, I always gave my all for this badge.
Thank you to my teammates, coaches, staff, and everyone behind the scenes for helping me grow every day.
And to the fans, thank you for your love, energy, and incredible support. Anfield is truly special, and playing for you was something I never took for granted.
I’m really sad I didn’t get to say goodbye properly at the last game because I didn’t know it was my last time playing in front of you.
From my heart, thank you for everything. I love you all and will carry Liverpool with me wherever I go.
This isn’t an easy goodbye, but it’s time for a new challenge and a new chapter.
See you again soon, Inshallah. YNWA.”
