Seven players Andoni Iraola might sell from Liverpool

Andoni Iraola is believed to be about to take over from Arne Slot as Liverpool’s new manager, and he will quickly focus on the summer transfer window. The Liverpool team leaders will expect a big improvement after a disappointing 2025-26 season, where the Reds finished fifth in the Premier League with far fewer points than when they won the title.

Iraola’s transfer plans are likely to be closely guided by Liverpool’s recruitment team. He is set to replace Slot after leaving AFC Bournemouth, who finished sixth in their best season ever. Liverpool is linked with many new signings just a year after spending a lot on players.

Fans already know Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson will be leaving, and Ibrahima Konate is heading to Real Madrid on a free transfer. Liverpool might sell other players too. Reports suggest some players could be leaving Anfield this summer.

For example, Italian forward Federico Chiesa has had a tough time at Liverpool. Injuries limited his chances since leaving Juventus, and there is talk he might go back to Serie A. Signed in Slot’s first transfer window in 2024, Chiesa faces strong competition and little playing time, so a move might suit both him and the club.

There’s no word yet on Harvey Elliott’s future. Elliott probably thought he would leave Liverpool when he joined Aston Villa on loan with an option for Villa to buy last September. But things changed when Villa’s football head Monchi left, and it became clear Villa didn’t want to trigger the purchase clause. Elliott’s attitude has been great despite the situation, but losing a year like this may hurt his career.

Midfielder Wataru Endo has been out for months but recently returned to play for Japan and will be going to the World Cup. This could be an ideal chance for the 33-year-old to show his skills. With just one year left on his contract, and new signings expected, Endo may fall down the team’s pecking order.

Last summer, Liverpool signed right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen with high hopes. But even with injuries and form changes giving him chances, Frimpong has not convinced Liverpool he’s the long-term answer. The Reds are reportedly interested in Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries, who offers a strong attacking style and could fit well with a new winger.

Frimpong has had ups and downs since joining Liverpool in January 2023. Meanwhile, Cody Gakpo signed a new contract early last season but then had a disappointing 2025-26 and faced heavy criticism. His future under Iraola is uncertain.

On the other hand, Curtis Jones had a great season and played more games than ever before. Now 25, he showed professionalism after Slot was sacked, which some fans saw as a hint about the former manager’s limits. Jones’ future might be connected with Liverpool’s talks with Inter Milan about Dumfries, as reports suggest Inter wants Jones in exchange.

Alexis Mac Allister, a World Cup winner, has also been a strong signing after moving from Brighton in 2023. The Argentine midfielder has two years left on his contract but is reportedly open to moving to La Liga this summer. Real Madrid is said to be interested, according to Spanish sources.
