Former Liverpool manager Arne Slot might be heading back into coaching soon, as rumors link him to a big new role.

Even though Slot helped Liverpool win the Premier League in his first season in 2025, he was surprisingly let go on Saturday, May 30. Andoni Iraola, who used to coach Bournemouth, is expected to take over at Anfield.

Liverpool’s decision was called “difficult” because in 2026, Slot’s team finished an underwhelming fifth place. Some fans weren’t happy with his sometimes cautious style, and even star player Mohamed Salah asked for a return to the “heavy-metal” football of Klopp’s days.

Right after Slot’s sacking, there were talks about him possibly replacing Massimo Allegri as AC Milan’s coach. Allegri lost his job after Milan missed out on the Champions League again, finishing fifth last season.

A Dutch reporter, Marc van de Kraan, told talkSPORT’s White and Jordan that Slot was shocked by Liverpool’s decision. He said Slot thought he would definitely be Liverpool’s manager next season, and the news hit him hard. But he wasn’t angry—just still trying to get his head around it, knowing that trophies are what really count in football.

Van de Kraan also mentioned that, unlike in the Netherlands where Slot improved many players, he struggled to get the best out of Liverpool’s squad except for Dominik Szoboszlai. He suggested that maybe the Premier League’s fast pace demands a different style, and that Slot’s way of playing might fit better in countries like the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, or Spain.

Interestingly, van de Kraan thinks Slot could be a great fit for the Dutch national team if Ronald Koeman steps down after the World Cup. Koeman’s contract ends then, and Slot’s attacking, passing style matches what Dutch fans want in their team.

So, while Slot’s time at Liverpool ended unexpectedly, a new and exciting opportunity might be waiting for him soon!
