Yan Diomande gives a big Liverpool transfer clue just days before Andoni Iraola is named manager.
RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande has given a big hint about his future as rumors link him to Liverpool. The 19-year-old winger has had an amazing first season in the Bundesliga, scoring 12 goals and assisting eight times. Because of this, top clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest.
Last month, The Athletic’s David Ornstein told NBC that Liverpool wanted to strengthen their wings this summer, and that plan seems the same even after their coaching change. The Reds have hired Andoni Iraola to take over, and he’s reportedly interested in signing Diomande, along with PSG’s Bradley Barcola and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen.
Iraola’s playing style might make Diomande more likely to choose Liverpool now than he might have before. The Spanish coach helped develop players like Antoine Semenyo at Bournemouth and has seen success with others like Rayan and Justin Kluivert.
However, Diomande’s recent words might be a little disappointing for Liverpool fans. The Ivory Coast star said he has loved PSG since he was a kid but is currently focused on playing in the World Cup this summer. He said, “PSG is a team I’ve loved since I was a child. It would be a pleasure to play there because it’s one of the biggest clubs. With French spoken there, I think I’d adapt quickly. But right now, I’m focused on the World Cup. After that, the clubs will figure things out and we’ll see what happens.”
In an interview with Sky Sports, Diomande also shared some of the players he looks up to, including a former PSG star. “Before Cristiano Ronaldo, my idol was Ronaldo Nazário. I also like players like Vinícius Jr. and Kylian Mbappé,” he said. “I watch players in my position to learn from them and try to use those good qualities on the pitch.”
