Liverpool star says he’s thinking about leaving the club even after Andoni Iraola joined

Liverpool star Federico Chiesa recently opened up in a chat about his future at the club and what’s happening with some of his teammates. Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus in 2024 but found it tough to get much playing time during the 2025/26 season, starting only once in the Premier League.

Because he wasn’t on the pitch much, lots of rumors linked him to a move back to Italy in January. However, injuries to Alexander Isak and Mo Salah taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations changed those plans.

With Arne Slot no longer the manager, many Liverpool players have a fresh start under the new boss Andoni Iraiola, and this could be a big chance for Chiesa too. He plans to stay with the Reds for pre-season but is clear that if he doesn’t get more minutes, he might have to look elsewhere.

“I want to play regularly, and if I can’t get that in the Premier League, I’ll have to find it somewhere else,” Chiesa told Gazzetta dello Sport. “Last season, I barely played. I’ll join the team for pre-season in the U.S., then I’ll speak with the club and Iraiola, and we’ll see what happens.”

Chiesa also shared, “Since the start of 2026, I haven’t played much. I have a good relationship with Liverpool. Back in January, the club and Slot said I couldn’t leave because they needed me. It was a tough time. I understood and stayed positive. Liverpool gave me a Premier League winners’ medal last year, which means a lot.”

Although Chiesa hasn’t yet become a regular starter since joining for £12.5 million, Liverpool fans really like him. In his first season, he made six appearances and earned a Premier League winner’s medal. Last season, he played 26 league games, mostly as a substitute.

When asked about possibly moving to Inter Milan or Como, Chiesa said, “What matters most to me is playing time. I don’t expect to start every game, but I’m ready to fight for my spot anywhere.”

Besides Chiesa, Liverpool have seen big names like Mo Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate leave, and the squad feels uncertain. Young star Rio Ngumoha has caught the eye of Bayern Munich, but Liverpool are clear they don’t want to sell him.

There’s also interest in Curtis Jones from Inter Milan. Chiesa mentioned they’ve talked about what life is like in Italy. “He just wanted to know what it’s like living there. I told him it’s great, with better weather than Liverpool, which is still a special place. Jones is really talented, and Inter are smart to want him.”

As for goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who has been linked with a move back to Italy’s Juventus, Chiesa thinks he’ll stay at Liverpool next season. “From what I’ve heard, he’s staying in England for now. He’s one of the world’s top five keepers, a fantastic leader, and he makes a big difference on and off the pitch.”
