Arsenal might surprise everyone by making a smart swap deal to sign Sandro Tonali, a player that Manchester United also want. After winning the Premier League for the first time since 2004, Arsenal is eager to strengthen their squad this summer. They also came close in the Champions League, finishing second after losing to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.

Manager Mikel Arteta is said to be keen on adding an attacking player. Arsenal have been linked with Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, and Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.

In midfield, Arsenal already have good options, especially with Mikel Merino coming back from injury and Myles Lewis-Skelly shifting from left-back to defensive midfield. But with some uncertainty over Merino and Christian Norgaard’s futures, Arteta might still want to bring in another midfielder.

Earlier this year, Arsenal was briefly linked with Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, although Newcastle quickly denied it. Tonali is now thought to be Manchester United’s top target this summer, especially after they agreed to sign Atalanta’s Ederson.

However, Arsenal could shake things up. Turkish club Besiktas are reportedly interested in Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard after another strong season. The 31-year-old scored nine goals and made 10 assists, but his contract runs only until next season. He joined Arsenal from Brighton in January 2023 and got a new two-year deal with a pay rise last year.

Arsenal could consider selling Trossard this summer. Besiktas aren’t the only club interested—Newcastle is also watching closely. Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and Aston Villa have shown interest too. Villa’s interest might help Arsenal in trying to sign Morgan Rogers, though Villa is reluctant to let him go as he’s one of their key players.

For Newcastle, who won’t be in European football next season, selling Tonali could make sense, especially if they get a player they like in exchange. They’ve already sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for about £75 million. Tonali’s price is high—around £100 million—partly because of a 10% sell-on fee that his old club AC Milan included when he moved to Newcastle for £60.8 million in 2023.

So, a clever swap deal could be a win for Arsenal, Newcastle, and possibly for Tonali himself!
