Martin Brundle strolls past a Premier League football player during the Monaco GP gridwalk.

Martin Brundle accidentally walked right past a Premier League footballer during the Monaco Grand Prix gridwalk while heading over to talk to Morgan Gibbs-White.

Gibbs-White, a Nottingham Forest player who just missed out on England’s World Cup squad, was near Max Verstappen’s Red Bull on the Monte-Carlo grid. Brundle first went to Verstappen’s spot, then noticed Gibbs-White and started to chat with him.

What Brundle didn’t realize was that Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was standing right next to him at the time.

Fans on Twitter found it funny, with one saying, “Brundle not knowing who Curtis Jones was at the F1,” and another adding, “Brundle ignoring Curtis Jones and wanting to speak to Morgan Gibbs-White.” A third laughed, “Martin Brundle just walked straight past Curtis Jones at the Grand Prix, lol.”

When Brundle got close to Gibbs-White, an official told him there wasn’t enough time for an interview. “He’s being slung out,” Brundle said.

Brundle had better luck with actresses Karen Gillan and Cynthia Erivo, who both stopped to chat with him on the grid, as well as five-time F1 winner John Watson.

Things were a bit awkward with Kim Kardashian, who came to support Lewis Hamilton. She smiled and waved when Brundle approached, but didn’t answer his question. “Usually people have a quick chat with us,” Brundle said.

He joked about trying to interview Kim before the race, sharing a clip that went just as he expected. He later added, “Kim and Khloe [her sister] aren’t speaking today. Maybe they will later, though.”

Once the race started, Verstappen had power problems just after the start, dropping to the back before retiring from the Grand Prix. He said he noticed power issues during the formation lap, which led to his early exit.
