Mohamed Salah is ready to join a new club after the World Cup, following his departure from Liverpool, according to reports.
Salah left Liverpool by mutual agreement after the last game of the 2025/26 Premier League season. Although he signed a two-year deal last April, both sides agreed to end it a year early.
After his final match with Liverpool, Salah told beIN Sports that he was “still thinking things over” and would decide after the World Cup—unless a “good opportunity” came up before then.
There have been strong talks about Salah moving to a club in the Saudi Pro League, which tried to sign him in the summer of 2024. But now, he’s given the go-ahead to join a surprise European club instead.
Aziz Yildrim, a candidate for Fenerbahce’s presidency, said last week he would try to sign Salah if re-elected. He told reporters, “He would want a three-year deal, costing around €90 million. If he’s exactly what we need, we will sign him! Our football committee will decide.”
Of course, Yildrim’s promises should be taken with some caution since his rival, Hakan Safi, also talked about signing Mason Greenwood, and there were rumors about Robert Lewandowski joining after his Barcelona contract ended.
Yildrim won the election and became Fenerbahce’s president again on June 7. He was president before from 1998 to 2018, before Ali Koc took over.
His comments about Salah were supported by Ertan Torunogullari, who worked with the previous board. Torunogullari said Salah is “very eager” to move to Turkey and had “very positive talks” with him.
Salah is also set to captain Egypt’s 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup this summer. Egypt is in Group G, facing Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran.
Their first game is against Belgium in Seattle on June 15, then they head to Vancouver to play New Zealand on June 21. Egypt’s last group match is versus Iran, back in Seattle on June 26.
When the team arrived in the US, Salah told ESPN, “We just need to focus on training hard in camp and see how it goes in the group. We want to make people proud and will do our best. It’s a tough group, but everyone has a chance. We’ll give it our all and hope to go far.”
