Alvaro Arbeloa is in talks with a Premier League club just days after leaving his job at Real Madrid.

Arbeloa took over as Real Madrid head coach in January, replacing Xabi Alonso, but stayed less than five months after the team didn’t win any trophies in the second half of the 2025/26 season.

On Tuesday (June 9), Real Madrid announced Arbeloa’s departure and said Jose Mourinho is expected to take over after Florentino Perez was re-elected as club president.

Even though Arbeloa was let go recently, he looks set to return quickly to top-level coaching. The Athletic reports that he has talked with Fulham about replacing Marco Silva at Craven Cottage. Silva is expected to leave for Benfica.

Before managing the first team, Arbeloa was coach of Real Madrid’s reserve team but hasn’t managed at a high level elsewhere. However, he knows English football well from his playing days with Liverpool and West Ham United.

Kieran McKenna was the favorite to become Fulham’s next manager but recently resigned from Ipswich despite leading them to three promotions in four years. McKenna said he wants to take a break and spend time with his family.

Sky Bet says former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is also in the running for the Fulham job, along with Coventry’s Frank Lampard and Famalicão’s Hugo Oliveira.

Here are some of the latest betting odds for the Fulham job:
– Alvaro Arbeloa — 11/8
– Ruben Amorim — 2/1
– Hugo Oliveira — 3/1
– Frank Lampard — 4/1
… and many others.

Real Madrid’s official statement about Arbeloa’s departure said:
“Real Madrid C.F. and Álvaro Arbeloa have agreed to end his time as first-team coach. Real is very grateful to Álvaro Arbeloa, who has always shown loyalty, commitment, and professionalism since joining our academy. He truly represents the values of our club. Real Madrid will always be his home, and we wish him and his family all the best for their next chapter.”
