There’s some surprising news about Harry Kane’s future just days before England’s first World Cup match. The captain and star player is getting ready to face Croatia on Wednesday, hoping to add to his impressive 79 goals for England.

Kane is in incredible form right now, having scored an amazing 61 goals for Bayern Munich this season as they won both the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal. His great performance has even put him in the running for the Ballon d’Or for the first time.

But there’s some uncertainty about his future at Bayern. A recent report from Kicker says there are talks about his contract with the club, with “differences regarding the conditions and the term of the new contract.” Kane’s current deal lasts until 2027, but the report suggests that big offers could come in during or after the World Cup.

Teams like Barcelona and Manchester United are keeping a close eye on the situation, ready to make a move if the chance arises. Kane’s release clause, which was €65 million, expired at the end of January and he didn’t choose to activate it, so Bayern still hold the power if he wants to leave.

Back in December, Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness sounded hopeful that Kane would stay, saying, “We assume he’ll definitely fulfill his contract until 2027. If it were up to us—and I’ve heard it’s up to him too—he’ll extend it. His family is very happy here, and life in Munich is peaceful. Harry only needed bodyguards back home in London, but not here.”

In November, Kane said that moving to Bayern was “one of the best decisions of my life” and that he’s “open to staying longer.” He also mentioned that he and the club would talk about a new contract soon.

Since joining Bayern from Spurs in 2023 for £82 million, Kane has scored an incredible 146 goals in 147 games, proving himself as one of the best strikers in recent years.
