Thierry Henry was really surprised when Alexi Lalas called James Corden a “w****r” during his World Cup analysis.
The 2026 World Cup is now in full swing, with many teams having already played their first games in this huge football tournament.
Since the World Cup is such a big event, some of the top sports broadcasters have come to North America to cover all the excitement.
For the BBC, Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan, and Alex Scott are leading the coverage, with experts like Manchester City’s Micah Richards, World Cup winner Olivier Giroud, and England and Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney as pundits.
At ITV, Mark Pougatch, Laura Woods, and Semra Hunter are presenting, with Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Ian Wright, former Tottenham and Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou, and ex-Manchester United and Chelsea star Juan Mata joining in the studio.
One big name missing from UK coverage is Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who is instead working with Fox Sports in the USA.
On Friday, Henry joined presenter Rebecca Lowe and fellow experts Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexi Lalas to preview the upcoming matches, including Canada’s opening game against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto.
Before the match, Fox Sports showed a video promoting their new show, “FIFA World Cup on FOX After Hours with James Corden,” and asked the panel what they thought of it.
“Can we talk about James Corden for a second?” Lowe asked, not expecting what was coming next.
Right away, Lalas replied, “What do you guys call him? A … full kit w****r, right?”
The rest of the panel was shocked by the comment, but Lalas kept going, saying, “He’s all dressed up and ready to go.”
After a moment, Lowe said, “Okay, lucky we’re on American TV.”
“Because the W-word on British TV …”
Lalas’ comment came after Corden appeared wearing a full Team USA training kit in the promo videos for his new World Cup show.
Corden’s late night show started on Thursday and will run until July 15, with former England captain Rio Ferdinand and comedian Ian Karmel joining him to recap all the World Cup action each day.
