Manchester United are looking to sign a World Cup star who’s said to be even better than Rodri, with their first summer signing set to have a medical today.

Manchester United is getting close to making their first signing of the summer, with Ederson reportedly set to have a medical check-up this Sunday.

The team is planning a big refresh in midfield during the summer transfer window, hoping to bring in as many as three new players for that part of the field. Michael Carrick has made strengthening the midfield a top priority. Besides that, the club might also look for a new striker, full-back, and goalkeeper to boost the squad.

The first signing looks almost done. United have agreed on a £35 million deal with Italian team Atalanta for Brazilian midfielder Ederson. The deal is expected to be finished by early July, just before the squad returns for pre-season training.

Ederson, 26, is currently with Brazil’s national team at the World Cup and didn’t play in the 1-1 draw against Morocco on Saturday. Even with his international duties, he is expected to complete his medical in New York on Sunday, according to Corriere dello Sport. After that, he just needs to sign his contract before officially joining United.

While United prefers players with Premier League experience, they might also go after Bournemouth’s midfielder Tyler Adams this summer. The Daily Mail says United’s data team really likes Adams and thinks he even outperforms Manchester City’s Rodri in some areas.

Several Premier League clubs are watching the 27-year-old, who had another strong season. Since Adams’ contract runs until 2028, Bournemouth isn’t in a hurry to sell their World Cup player. Chelsea has admired him for a while, and Liverpool might join the race after hiring former Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola.

In an interview with NBC in October 2025, Iraola spoke highly of Adams: “Tyler is a fighter and a great leader. You have to challenge him because even in training, he’ll complain if things don’t go his way. But I love players like that—they always want more. He’s focused all the time and clearly a captain, having led every team he’s played for.”
