According to reports, AC Milan might get the chance to sign one of Ruben Amorim’s former players from Manchester United. Amorim, who was let go by Manchester United in January after a tough 14 months, is set to become AC Milan’s new head coach, signing a two-year deal. This will be his first coaching job since leaving Old Trafford.

Amorim’s big task is to help Milan improve after they missed out on the Champions League, finishing fifth in Serie A. The club is expected to be active in the summer transfer window. Journalist Nicolò Schira shared that Milan has been offered the chance to sign Manuel Ugarte from Manchester United. He added, “No talks are happening yet, it’s just a proposal.”

Interestingly, Amorim coached Ugarte before at Sporting Lisbon, before Ugarte joined Manchester United. But it’s unclear if Amorim wants to bring the midfielder back. Ugarte, 25, had a hard time getting game time under Amorim during the 2025-26 season. In November, Amorim encouraged Ugarte to work harder in training.

Amorim said, “He’s struggling right now, but it’s our job to help him. Things can change. A few weeks ago, the environment was different. I know Ugarte needs to adapt and improve, especially in training.”

Earlier this year, Ugarte was linked with moves to Galatasaray and Juventus but said in March that he wanted to fight for his spot at Manchester United. Speaking before Uruguay’s friendly against England, he said, “It might sound like a cliché, but you learn a lot from this. Not many players play every game—maybe only Fede Valverde from Real Madrid. You have to learn to handle it. I’ve learned a lot and I believe my chance will come.”
