Man Utd wants their star player to accept a pay cut to stay with the team.

During the summer of 2025, Manchester United worked hard to move on some players who weren’t fitting into the team, including Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, and Antony. These five players, nicknamed the ‘bomb squad,’ were either sold or loaned out, and many people wondered if that was the right choice.

At the same time, players like Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko joined United. Ruben Amorim, the head coach often linked to these big changes, wasn’t able to get the results needed to keep his job.

After that, United took a slower, more careful approach to transfers this summer, especially after qualifying for the Champions League under then-interim head coach Michael Carrick.

Luke Shaw, who’s had lots of injuries in his career, managed to start all 38 Premier League games in the 2025-26 season as he neared his 31st birthday with one year left on his contract. Reports say the club plans to find a fair way to keep him beyond 2027 without offering the same high salary of £200,000 a week.

According to The Sun’s Samuel Luckhurst, Shaw’s new deal might be like Harry Maguire’s recent renewal, where the basic salary was lowered but bonuses and Champions League qualification could boost the overall pay, including a one-year extension.

Shaw joined United from Southampton in 2014 and has played 325 games for the club under nine different managers, starting with Louis van Gaal. Despite his injury problems, which once kept him out for over 60 games after a serious leg break in 2015-16, Shaw has been an important part of the team’s success, helping United win trophies like the Carabao Cup and the Europa League since the days of legendary manager Alex Ferguson.
