Tommy Fury gets surprising world championship fight offer with just one condition
Tommy Fury is now set to fight for a world championship for the first time in his boxing career.
He kept his unbeaten run going with a close win over former strongman Eddie Hall in Manchester last weekend.
At 27 years old, Tommy will now enter the WBC cruiserweight rankings for only the second time in his career.
After the fight at AO Arena, Hall praised Tommy, saying, “Tommy was really hard to catch, and I knew that going in. I had to keep up with his pace, but in the end, his energy and speed beat me. I couldn’t catch him.”
Tommy first made the rankings after beating Jake Paul in February 2023. He then went on to win fights against KSI and Kenan Hanjalic, and now with this win over Hall, his record stands at 12-0.
His older half-brother, Tyson Fury, watched the fight and said Tommy is ready to take on WBC cruiserweight champ Noel Mikaelian. Tyson even believes Tommy can win. “Tommy’s a real fighter,” Tyson told iFL TV.
“I want Mauricio Sulaiman to rank him in the top 15 in light heavyweight or cruiserweight. Tommy would have a good fight with Noel Mikaelian and has what it takes to beat him. A world title shot is next for Tommy, maybe.”
Mikaelian heard Tyson’s comments and challenged Tommy, but only if he can also have a fight with the ‘Gypsy King’ after. He also made a small jab at Tyson by saying he likes fighting cruiserweights. Tommy faced Oleksandr Usyk twice in 2024 but lost both times.
Mikaelian said, “If your brother wants a title shot, I’m ready if Mauricio [Sulaiman] lets me have my voluntary defense back, since I’ve heard nothing from the team I was supposed to fight. But only if you promise to fight me next. You love cruiserweights, don’t you?”
It’s thought Mikaelian is referring to David Benavidez, as both camps have been in tough negotiations since early 2026 with little progress.
Tommy hopes to follow in his brother’s footsteps and win championship gold.
He told DAZN last month that besides supporting his partner Molly-Mae Hague and their two kids, becoming a world champion is what keeps him motivated to train hard.
“The one thing I haven’t done yet is become a world champion. That’s what keeps me going,” Tommy said.
“Making sure we’re all good financially is important. Everything I do is for them. I want to make sure they’re as secure as possible.”
