An F1 team has reached out to Christian Horner, hoping to welcome the former Red Bull team boss back to the sport.
Christian Horner stepped down as Red Bull’s team principal in July 2025 and hasn’t been involved in Formula One since. Still, several teams are interested in bringing him back, with one team recently reaching out to him.
Horner, who is 52, played a big part in Red Bull’s success, helping both Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen win four World Championships each while he was in charge.
There have been talks about Horner working with Chinese car maker BYD to start a 12th F1 team, but that project would likely take a few years to get going.
Now, the Daily Mail reports that Aston Martin has made a move to bring Horner on board to help improve their struggling team. This season, Aston Martin has been fighting at the back of the grid against teams like Audi and Cadillac. Fernando Alonso scored the team’s only point so far, at the Monaco Grand Prix, while his teammate Lance Stroll’s best result is 15th place.
Aston Martin is also worried because Stroll hasn’t finished five of the seven races, and Alonso retired from four. This tough run has put a lot of pressure on the team’s leadership, which is why they’ve reportedly reached out to Horner to help turn things around.
It’s said that Lance Stroll, the owner, was very interested in hiring Horner and almost sealed a deal, but talks fell apart at the last minute.
Horner is currently thinking about his options for returning to F1. This makes sense, especially since his severance package is said to be around £80 million, giving him the freedom to wait for the right opportunity—even if he feels like there’s still some unfinished business in the sport.
