Micah Richards jokingly says that Liverpool star Mo Salah owes him some money after a favor he did over ten years ago turned into a daily routine.
Richards spent most of his career at Manchester City, playing 245 games and winning the Premier League in a memorable season. After retiring, he became a well-known football pundit for BBC, Sky Sports, and CBS. Before that, Richards had a brief loan spell in Italy with Fiorentina, where he met Salah.
At the same time, Salah was also on loan at Fiorentina from Chelsea and scored 9 goals in 26 games. This was before he became one of the world’s best players at Liverpool, scoring 257 goals and winning every major trophy.
Richards loved playing alongside Salah during the 2014/15 season. But after accidentally becoming Salah’s chauffeur—since Salah didn’t drive in Florence—Richards thinks he might be owed some money for all the petrol costs! Speaking to SPORTbible, Richards said, “He was amazing in training. I drove him every morning because he didn’t drive there. He owes me some money for petrol!”
They both enjoyed that period, away from big pressures, and Richards appreciated Mo’s great attitude.
On the international stage, Salah helped Egypt reach the World Cup knockout stages for the first time ever, finishing second in their group. He scored in their 3-1 win over New Zealand but had to come off injured during the 1-1 draw with Iran. Luckily, he has recovered well and joined training again, hoping to play in Egypt’s upcoming match against Australia.
Egypt’s coach, Hossam Hassan, gave a positive update: “Salah is back with the team and worked hard in training. He’s doing well, and we hope he will be ready to play and give his best.”
