Why Ederson’s move to Manchester United hasn’t been announced yet
Manchester United agreed to sign Ederson about a month ago, but the deal hasn’t been made official yet. The Atalanta midfielder is expected to be United’s first signing this transfer window after the clubs agreed on a €45 million fee. Ederson has already agreed personal terms with United and even talked about his upcoming move while at the World Cup with Brazil.
Ederson told reporters in New York, “Everything is almost done, but right now I just want to enjoy this moment. It’s a wonderful experience, and I want to make the most of it.”
United missed out on their top target Mateus Fernandes, who joined Tottenham from West Ham for a club-record £85 million after United didn’t match Spurs’ price. Meanwhile, Elliot Anderson went to Manchester City, and Sandro Tonali chose Spurs.
Ederson wasn’t originally supposed to be at the World Cup but was called up to replace Roma full-back Wesley Franca, who got injured just before the tournament. The delay in finalizing Ederson’s transfer is because he still needs to complete the second part of his medical check in England, but that can’t happen until Brazil’s World Cup games are finished, according to expert Fabrizio Romano.
Romano reassured United fans there’s nothing to worry about and the deal will happen soon. On his YouTube channel, he explained: “Man Utd and Atalanta have had a verbal agreement for about a month. They’re just waiting for Ederson to have the second part of his medical with Manchester United before finalizing everything. The first part of the medical is done, documents are ready, but until the official medical is complete, the deal isn’t official.”
Even with Ederson expected soon, United are still looking for more midfielders. Bournemouth’s Alex Scott is high on their list, but the club says he’s not for sale and wants to offer him a new contract. Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni is also a target, especially with the arrival of new manager Jose Mourinho causing uncertainty. Plus, Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha is catching attention after his strong World Cup showing for Germany.
