Novak Djokovic is set to face a fine from Wimbledon officials, even after making it to his eighth straight semi-final on Tuesday.

Djokovic won the longest Wimbledon semi-final ever, battling through a tough five-set match against third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime that lasted five hours and 15 minutes.

At 39 years old, Djokovic is aiming to become the oldest Grand Slam winner in the Open era. He pulled off an exciting win over Auger-Aliassime in a close match tie-break, with scores of 7-6 (10), 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (10-4).

This big win against the Canadian sets up an exciting semi-final against ATP No. 1 Jannik Sinner, a repeat of last year’s match where Djokovic lost to the eventual champion in straight sets.

Sinner is the favorite to reach his second Wimbledon final, but Djokovic feels confident he can pull off a win just like he did at the Australian Open when he beat the Italian in five sets.

“I had a very long semi-final against Sinner [in Australia]. This is quarters. Now I have to play Sinner in the semis. There’s a difference in the surface,” Djokovic said after his quarter-final win.

“That was the first big tournament of the year for me, coming fresher after months of rest and training. It’s a bit different now. But still, it’s another great run for me at the Grand Slams. That’s what matters most. I’m still trying to prove I can compete with the best players and win on the biggest stage.”

While fans are excited for Friday’s big match between two top players, Djokovic is also facing a punishment for his behavior at Wimbledon.

Wimbledon officials fined Djokovic £5,600 for an “audible obscenity.” The All England Club confirmed this on Tuesday in their list of fines.

It’s not clear exactly what caused the fine, but it probably came from Djokovic’s outbursts during his fourth-round match against Roman Safiullin.

In that match, Djokovic shouted “bull****” and several Serbian curse words after falling 2-0 behind in the third set. The umpire even gave him a formal warning.

Djokovic also lost his cool later in the third set when Safiullin hit a powerful forearm close to him, forcing Djokovic to move away quickly.

Djokovic is the 17th player fined at this year’s Wimbledon, and he said he’s not proud of his outbursts.

“Sometimes it helps to let out what’s building inside,” he admitted. “It’s not something I’m proud of when I get warnings or lose my temper. I don’t aim for that, but when it happens, it happens.

“I just try to stop it, not think about it too much, and focus on the next point and task ahead.”
