Steph Curry’s honest reply when asked about teaming up with LeBron James next season
Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry gave a clear answer when asked about the idea of playing with LeBron James next season.
LeBron announced he was leaving the LA Lakers in June after eight years. Instead of thinking about retiring, the 41-year-old said he still wants to chase his fifth NBA championship.
“LeBron knows the Lakers are focusing on the future, but he wants to keep competing for titles,” his agent, Rich Paul, said after the news. “We want to figure out what’s best for LeBron at this point in his life and career. He wants to make every season count.”
LeBron, who holds records for most career points, minutes played, and All-Star games, has received many offers from teams since saying he wanted to move on.
Teams like the Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Denver Nuggets are all possible destinations.
Recent reports say LeBron is seriously considering a move to the 76ers, especially after Jaylen Brown joined them, which got his attention.
Golden State is also a top option after LeBron’s amazing time playing with Steph Curry at the 2024 Olympics.
At a celebrity golf event in Nevada, Curry was asked about the chance of playing with LeBron next season for the first time.
“I’m more interested in playing golf with LeBron. We’ll sort out the basketball stuff later, but I want to see how good he is at golf! He’s really working hard at it. Of course, we’d love to play together—hopefully that happens. He deserves to take his time deciding,” Curry said.
It’s no surprise that Curry, a four-time champ, would be happy to have a player like LeBron join the team.
But even though Curry supports the idea, some say it might be tough for Golden State to sign LeBron.
Reports say that the Warriors need to make a trade for Anthony Davis from the Washington Wizards to have a good shot at landing LeBron. However, talks about that trade haven’t progressed yet.
ESPN’s Shams Charania said on Stephen A. Smith’s radio show, “LeBron’s open-minded, but the Warriors’ plan was to try to get Curry, Draymond Green, LeBron, and Anthony Davis together.”
Charania added, “The big reason LeBron might join the Warriors is if Davis can come too. Without that, the Warriors aren’t really high on his list, and they don’t think LeBron will choose them unless they pull off a trade for Davis.”
The next NBA season starts in October, and by then, LeBron will have picked his new team.
