England player ratings vs Norway: Jude Bellingham shines once more
Jude Bellingham was the standout star as England beat Norway 2-1 to reach the World Cup semi-finals.
Bellingham scored twice, once in the first half and again in extra time, securing a spot for the Three Lions in the final four on a hot night in Miami.
Norway took the lead when Andreas Schjelderup’s cross went over goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and into the net after 36 minutes. But Bellingham quickly brought England back on level terms just before halftime, thanks to a perfect pass from Anthony Gordon that let him slide the ball past Norway’s keeper, Orjan Nyland.
That goal lifted England, who had been a bit quiet before the break. Norway almost scored again when Torbjorn Heggem headed in close, but VAR ruled offside on Erling Haaland earlier in the move.
In extra time, Bellingham scored again, heading in after Nyland couldn’t keep hold of a long shot from Morgan Rogers. VAR then canceled a penalty for England after deciding that defender Djed Spence had fouled the attacker first.
Here’s how we rated the England players:
Jordan Pickford – 5/10
He seemed caught out by Schjelderup’s surprise goal but did well for the rest of the game.
Ezri Konsa – 5/10
Missed the cross that led to Norway’s opener but was solid otherwise. He’ll hope to move back to center defense for the semis.
John Stones – 7/10
Back in the lineup after a red card to Quansah, he stopped Sorloth from doubling Norway’s lead. A strong game from the former Man City defender.
Marc Guehi – 8/10
Had a tough time early on with Haaland’s strength but improved as the game went on. Made a big block in extra time.
Nico O’Reilly – 7/10
Quiet but effective, showing good skill by drifting into midfield space.
Declan Rice – 5/10
Looked unwell in the first half and didn’t come back after the break.
Elliot Anderson – 8/10
Played well in the first half, linking up nicely on the left. Stepped up after halftime.
Noni Madueke – 5/10
Started instead of Saka but didn’t make much impact and was switched out at halftime.
Jude Bellingham – 10/10
His two goals lifted the whole team. Simply outstanding.
Anthony Gordon – 7/10
Quiet at first, then delivered a great assist for Bellingham’s goal.
Harry Kane – 6/10
Lost the ball too easily at times and had a quiet night without scoring.
Eberechi Eze – 6/10
Came on for Rice and had a good chance saved late in extra time.
Bukayo Saka – 6/10
After limited World Cup minutes, he showed some encouraging form and should start against Argentina.
Reece James – 6/10
England need him fit for the next game. He contributed both defensively and in attack during his time on the field.
Djed Spence – 9/10
A fantastic substitute who was dangerous going forward, nearly won a penalty, and defended well. What a week he’s had!
Morgan Rogers – 7/10
Provided the shot that led to Bellingham’s second goal. A valuable impact off the bench.
Dan Burn – 7/10
Came on late to help lock things down, just like he did against Mexico. And he did it well.
