Man City invites clubs to a ‘showcase game’ with 25 players ready to be transferred.
Manchester City are hosting a unique ‘shop window’ game, inviting many clubs to come and see up to 25 players they might want to let go this summer.
After naming Enzo Maresca as Pep Guardiola’s successor following ten years of success, City are ready for a big squad shake-up. They’ve already signed England midfielder Elliot Anderson for a club-record £115 million. More new players are expected, but there will also be plenty of departures, following recent exits like Bernardo Silva and John Stones, who left on free transfers. Nathan Ake has also moved on, joining Fenerbahce in Turkey.
In a surprising move, City are organising a match to showcase some of the players they plan to sell or loan out. Journalist Alan Nixon revealed that many clubs, including several from the Championship and Europe, have been invited to watch the game on Tuesday.
This match will be a great chance to spot some of City’s bright young talent who could be available soon. Players expected to take part include Divine Mukasa, who played six times for City before his loan at Leicester City. Jaden and Reigan Heskey, sons of former England star Emile Heskey, are also set to play. Other youngsters like Max Alleyne, Spike Brits, Charlie Gray, and Issa Kabore are involved too.
There’s no news yet on whether Jack Grealish or Kalvin Phillips will join the game. Both have returned from loan and were recently seen training hard as they work to get back to full fitness. They are still City players and could be part of the pre-season plans.
Speaking of pre-season, City will head to Asia to play Inter Milan in Hong Kong, then face the K-League All Stars and Atletico Madrid in Seoul. After that, they’ll compete in the Community Shield against the Premier League champions in Cardiff. Many first-team players will likely be rested after the World Cup, but City have welcomed two new signings to the squad.
They beat Arsenal to sign 17-year-old winger Jeremy Monga from Leicester City for £12.5 million. They also picked up Mathys Detourbet from their sister club Troyes for £21 million but loaned him right away to AS Monaco. In addition, Northern Ireland goalkeeper Pierce Charles joined from Sheffield Wednesday and was immediately loaned to QPR in the Championship.
