Ruben Amorim is set to surprise Man Utd by signing a player he once called the ‘future of the team’ when he was their manager.

Ruben Amorim is excited about the idea of bringing a current Manchester United player to his new team, AC Milan, as he gets ready for his first season in Serie A.

Amorim became AC Milan’s head coach in June. Before that, he hadn’t had a job since January when he left Manchester United. He parted ways with United after a tough 1-1 draw against Leeds, where he seemed to criticize the club’s leaders. After he left, Michael Carrick stepped in as interim coach and helped United finish third in the Premier League, qualifying them for the Champions League.

There were talks linking Amorim to other clubs like Benfica and Fulham, but now he’s focused on leading AC Milan to success after they finished fifth in Serie A last season under their previous coach, Massimiliano Allegri.

To strengthen his team, Amorim is interested in reuniting with one of his former players, whom he once called “the future of our team” during his time at United. Italian journalist Matteo Moretto mentioned on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel that Amorim is keen on signing Moroccan right-back Noussair Mazraoui.

Moretto said, “Mazraoui is one of Amorim’s favorites. Right now, there aren’t any talks between the clubs yet, but Mazraoui, who is 28 and has a contract until 2028 (with an option for one more year), is a player Amorim really values. We’ll see if Milan goes after him later in the transfer window.”

Mazraoui joined United from Bayern Munich in 2024 for £17 million and has played 77 games. However, under Carrick, he hasn’t been a regular starter, as Carrick seems to prefer Diogo Dalot on the right side of defense.

Mazraoui was also part of the Morocco team that reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup. Despite not starting often at United, Amorim has praised Mazraoui’s flexibility, especially his ability to play in a back five defense.

Back in 2024, Amorim called Mazraoui a “top player,” saying, “He understands the game well, knows how to attack, is very technical, strong defensively, and excellent in one-on-one situations. He’s a modern player and the future of our team. Players like Nous, who can control the tempo and feel comfortable with the ball, are really important. I’m very happy with him.”

There were also reports that Amorim was interested in Mason Mount, Amad Diallo, and Manuel Ugarte. However, Ugarte might stay at United after suffering a knee injury while playing for Uruguay at the World Cup.

The transfer window closes at 11 pm on September 1, so we’ll have to wait and see what moves AC Milan makes!
