Carlos Alcaraz’s complaint brings a big tournament change just before his injury comeback
An ATP 1000 event has made a big change after Carlos Alcaraz raised concerns about part of the tournament.
Alcaraz has been out since April because of a right wrist injury. This injury made him pull out of the Barcelona Open and miss both the French Open and Wimbledon. He also missed other tournaments like the Italian Open and Queen’s Club. But fans expect him to be back on the court in August, just before the US Open.
Before that, Alcaraz will likely play in the Cincinnati Open, where he’s the defending champion from 2025. He won that tournament last year when Jannik Sinner had to leave the final early because of illness.
Even though he won Cincinnati, Alcaraz didn’t like that the final was played on a Monday instead of Sunday, like most big tennis finals. He said, “It’s going to feel weird playing the final on a Monday. I love playing on Sunday, but I understand why it happens. Still, it’s different for me.”
Looks like the organizers took his words seriously because now the final will be on Sunday, August 23. The tournament will last 11 days. But if Alcaraz reaches the final, he might face a tough schedule since the US Open Mixed Doubles Challenge starts the next day, Tuesday, August 25. Last year, he flew straight from Cincinnati to New York to play doubles with Emma Raducanu without a day to rest.
According to Spanish news outlet La Verdad, Alcaraz’s team is focusing on making sure he’s ready for Cincinnati. He will miss the Montreal Masters in early August, but his wrist is healing well. His doctor, Dr. Ángel Ruiz-Cotorro, checked him recently and gave positive feedback. Training will gradually get tougher as he gets back in shape.
Since Alcaraz has been out, Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner have won two big tournaments. Fans can’t wait to see if Alcaraz returns strong soon!
