World Cup star Vozinha gets contract offer from big club as race for goalkeeper heats up
Vozinha has become a well-known name after his amazing performances with Cape Verde at the World Cup. Many teams are interested in him, and now a big club has joined the race to sign him for free this summer.
The 40-year-old was key to Cape Verde’s incredible run to the round of 32 in their very first World Cup. Their exciting journey ended with a close 3-2 loss to Argentina, even after extra time.
Before the World Cup, Vozinha announced he would leave Chaves, a team in Portugal’s Liga 2, thinking the tournament might be his last as a pro goalkeeper. But after his great showing at the 2026 World Cup, clubs from all over the world have been reaching out with offers.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano shared that Chilean giants Colo-Colo have made their first offer, and Vozinha’s agents have already replied with a counter proposal. It’s also worth mentioning that Colo-Colo is interested in another goalkeeper, Uruguayan Santiago Mele from Monterrey.
Vozinha is looking for one final football challenge before retirement. He has played 280 games over 19 years and has been part of teams in many countries across different continents. He’s played in Europe and Africa—in Cape Verde, Angola, Moldova, Cyprus, Slovakia, and Portugal.
This chance to play in South America could be exciting for him, making it the third continent where he has played for a club.
He has been a big part of Cape Verde’s football story for the last 14 years. He joined the national team in 2013, the same year they qualified for their first African Cup of Nations. Since then, he has earned 94 caps and played in three more African Cup of Nations. This summer, he helped the team make history by playing in their first World Cup.
Now, he might start a new, and maybe final, chapter in his career if he signs with Colo-Colo.
