A never-before-heard Max Verstappen radio message shows what he really thought of the two Red Bull drivers.
Max Verstappen didn’t hold back when he called out two fellow F1 drivers during the Hungarian Grand Prix in a rare team radio moment.
The 2026 Formula One summer break has arrived, giving fans a four-week pause before the action returns at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort on August 23.
On Sunday, the drivers raced at the Hungaroring in Hungary for the last race before the break, making for an exciting send-off. Reigning champion Lando Norris took the win, after teammate Oscar Piastri had to leave the race early amid some controversy. Verstappen finished second, with championship leader Kimi Antonelli in third.
This was good news for Red Bull, especially since Verstappen is expected to make a big decision about his future during the break. He’s had a strong run lately, landing on the podium three times in the last four races.
But even though he finished second, Verstappen had a tense moment during the race. His team radio messages showed he got pretty frustrated with two other drivers.
Traffic on the track made things hard, especially when trying to pass lapped cars. Ironically, it was his former teammate Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad—both driving for Red Bull’s sister team, Racing Bulls—who really upset Verstappen.
As Verstappen came up to Turn 2, Lawson and Lindblad were busy racing each other and didn’t move over quickly, which led to Verstappen losing his cool. On the radio, he shouted, “Oh, they should get a penalty, this is f***ing ridiculous, these morons. My god.”
He eventually got past them, and neither driver was penalized. They finished eighth and tenth in the race.
It later turned out that a system failure caused problems for several drivers at the back. Marshals had to use blue flags because some drivers couldn’t see the signals properly on their steering wheel displays.
This season hasn’t been easy for Red Bull—they’re currently fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, more than 200 points behind leaders Mercedes. Although recent upgrades have helped, Verstappen said he was still surprised to finish second in Hungary given how the car felt during the race.
“Overall, I still don’t really understand how we finished second, but I think the team did a great job,” he said. “It’s a bit better than what we expected, so that’s definitely a good thing considering how tough it was. I also noticed some damage on the car when I got out, so it wasn’t easy.”
He added, “I knew it was going to be tough, and it really was. Honestly, it was one of the hardest races of the year for me—managing the car and balance corner to corner. So, getting on the podium was an amazing result for us.”
With this second-place finish, Verstappen is now sixth in the Drivers’ standings, 110 points behind the leader, Antonelli.
