Bryson DeChambeau gets frustrated after a tough start at LIV Golf as he faces a big $500 million contract decision ahead

LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau got off to a slow start on day one of LIV New York, and some angry clips of him have come out as he waits for a new contract. The 32-year-old shot five over par in his first round at Trump Bedminster, hoping to stay in the race for the LIV Golf title going into the final week.

To catch up with John Rahm, DeChambeau needs to score 19.04 points more than him. That means he has to finish at least in the top three and hope Rahm finishes outside the top 15. Third place would give DeChambeau 24 points, while 15th place would give Rahm the needed minimum of four points. If DeChambeau finishes even better, in second or first place (which earn 30 and 40 points), he still needs to beat Rahm’s score to have a chance.

If there are ties, points get split evenly, leading to the decimal scores. After day one at the tough 7,651-yard course in New Jersey, DeChambeau is tied for 49th place at five over par, which is ten shots behind where he needs to be. Rahm hasn’t done much better, sitting one over par in 24th place, earning just one point — the last spot to score points.

DeChambeau will want to turn things around, especially since his contract is up at the end of the season. He showed his frustration after struggling early, throwing his bottle at a bin – though he missed the target! He did get back on track a little, making par on every hole up to number ten and a birdie on 11, but then made bogeys on 15 and 16.

This all happened during the same week that DeChambeau led a players-only meeting before the weekend, as LIV announced new funding plans for the 2027 season. The league has had a rough few months after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund said it would stop backing the event, which has already cost about £1 billion. But that was sorted out recently with new investors stepping in, and now DeChambeau is waiting for his expected $500 million contract offer.
