Good news for Man Utd as a new left-back agrees to join the team!
One of Manchester United’s backup options for left-back is excited about the idea of joining the club after Newcastle decided to keep Lewis Hall at St James’ Park.
United have been interested in 21-year-old Hall for most of the summer, as their new permanent head coach, Michael Carrick, looks to strengthen the team. Right now, Luke Shaw is their only natural left-back, since Tyrell Malacia was released as a free agent.
As United get ready to compete in the Champions League again this season, they’ve already signed midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for over £70 million combined, and brought in goalkeeper Karl Darlow. But they still need to add more players.
Since Newcastle’s decision to hold on to Hall, United have been linked with several other options, including 19-year-old Spanish youth international Jorge Salinas. Another name they’re looking at is David Raum, the left-back and captain of RB Leipzig, according to TEAMtalk.
Raum, 28, has a release clause of about £34 million. But because he only has one year left on his contract with Leipzig, a deal could be made for less. It’s said that Raum is happy about the chance to move to Old Trafford and has already spoken with people at the club.
He seems to be ahead of other choices, like Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde, who has been less attractive to United because of recent injuries. In May, German news outlet BILD said Bournemouth, managed by Marco Rose who used to coach Leipzig, were also interested in Raum. But this hasn’t gone anywhere yet.
Raum has played 39 times for Germany since his debut in 2021 and was part of their squad at the 2026 World Cup. He was named in the Bundesliga’s Team of the Season in 2021/22 while at Hoffenheim, which helped him secure his move to Leipzig that summer.
Before Hoffenheim, Raum played in Germany’s second division. Just a year later, he was playing in the Champions League. In a 2022 interview with Red Bull’s website, he said, “It’s crazy how fast things can change in football. Last year, I was watching the games on TV with my friends. Now I get to play in it, which is a huge dream. I’m really proud that I’ve worked step-by-step to make this dream come true.”
