As Lando Norris goes after his second Drivers’ World Championship title in a row, he’s likely to get a new deal with McLaren.
Earlier this season, the future of Norris and his teammate Oscar Piastri looked uncertain. There were talks about Max Verstappen wanting to leave Red Bull to join a more competitive team. It wasn’t clear if Verstappen would team up with Norris or Piastri, and there was even talk of a swap involving Piastri. But Piastri confirmed he’ll be racing with McLaren in 2027, and Verstappen signed a long-term deal with Red Bull.
Norris has stepped up as McLaren’s lead driver after overtaking Piastri with just a few races left this season. He found his winning form again by claiming victory in both races right after the summer break, helping McLaren aim for the top spot once more.
Now, reports say Norris is about to be offered a multi-year contract that would make him the third highest-paid driver on the grid. Journalist Marc Limacher, who wrote a book on F1 money matters, says Norris has been in talks about a new deal since June and could get a 50% pay raise.
Right now, the world champion earns €40 million a year, but next season that could jump to €60 million. If this is true, Norris would be the third-best paid driver, just behind Lewis Hamilton. Still, this is only about half of what Max Verstappen is making. Verstappen’s new contract reportedly pays €92 million a year, with bonuses that can boost it up to €115 million.
Norris hasn’t signed the new deal yet, and there’s been no official word about it.
Norris and Verstappen aren’t the only ones working on new contracts. Lewis Hamilton’s strong performance in 2027 has reportedly earned him a new deal with Ferrari. Rumors have been floating for months that Hamilton would stay with Ferrari after winning his first race with them at the Spanish Grand Prix in June.
This extension should keep the seven-time world champ at Ferrari through the 2028 season, with an announcement expected next week at their home race in Monza.
After lots of ‘silly season’ rumors, it looks like McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes will all keep their driver pairs for one more year.
