Liverpool got some heat for a social media post about their new third kit that many felt missed the mark.
Liverpool recently shared a fun video on social media to get fans excited about their new third kit for the 2026/27 season. The jersey is mainly black with maroon details and matte silver accents, while the goalkeeper’s kit is green. It’s inspired by the club’s famous European nights, and the video includes clips from some of Liverpool’s most unforgettable moments in Europe’s biggest competition.
This season, the new kit will mostly be worn for away games in the Champions League. The group stage draw is happening later today, so the Reds will soon know which teams they might face while wearing this jersey.
The video tries to be playful, showing the kit being “scientifically” made in a lab, mixed with highlights like Steven Gerrard’s goal against Olympiacos. However, some fans weren’t too happy with the video. Their main issue is that the voiceover doesn’t have a Scouse accent. Instead, it features Owen Cooper, an actor from Warrington who stars in Adolescence. Even though Cooper is a big Liverpool fan and has shown his support before, many fans feel that not using a local accent makes the post feel out of touch.
Retired boxer and Liverpool supporter Paul Smith shared his disappointment on X (formerly Twitter), saying: “There are plenty of people here qualified to do a voiceover for the club, yet they picked someone not from Liverpool.”
Other fans agreed, saying things like, “Would it really have hurt to use someone with a Scouse accent? It’s where the club is from.” Another added, “It might be a small thing, but not using a Scouse voice for a Liverpool shirt ad shows a disconnect between the club and its supporters. It makes you wonder how much the owners really care.”
Some were even quick to tease the idea of someone from Manchester doing the voiceover instead, imagining how fans would react if it were the other way around.
Despite the frustration over the video and its voiceover, some believe that if Liverpool has success and wins trophies wearing this kit, fans might eventually overlook these small complaints.
