Man Utd thinking about a last-minute loan deal for a striker as discussions continue
Manchester United might have a busy end to the transfer window, as reports say the club “have not ruled out a move” for a striker after some agents got in touch.
So far, United have spent about £150 million on new players this summer. They signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea for around £50 million, Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £35 million, and Carlos Baleba from Brighton for £65 million plus £5 million in extra fees.
This means Manchester United have plenty of options in midfield. Many feel their priority now is to bring in a left-back to challenge Luke Shaw, who is in the final year of his contract and has had a slow start this season.
There’s also talk that Joshua Zirkzee could leave, with Juventus and Fiorentina interested in him. That might push United to get a new striker. Michael Carrick’s team played without a main striker in games against Hull City and Ipswich Town, but that might change when they play Everton on Sunday. Benjamin Sesko is almost fully fit after missing the last three Premier League games last season due to injury.
Also, United haven’t ruled out signing Atletico Madrid’s Alexander Sorloth. Agents have offered him to the club. The 30-year-old Norwegian striker could cost around £30 million, but United haven’t made a decision yet. According to Caught Offside, the club might try to get him on loan instead of paying the full price.
Sorloth played for Crystal Palace between 2018 and 2020 but scored just once in 20 games. He was loaned out to Gent and Trabzonspor during that time. Since then, he has done well at Real Sociedad, Villarreal, and Atletico Madrid, scoring 44 goals in 107 matches for Atletico. He usually plays as a No. 9, but impressed on the right wing at this summer’s World Cup.
As for the left-back spot, United are interested but face challenges. Top target Lewis Hall probably won’t leave Newcastle this summer, and Alejandro Balde wants to stay at Barcelona despite United showing interest.
Last week, it was reported that United made a surprise inquiry about Aston Villa’s Ian Maatsen. Transfer expert Pete O’Rourke says this could be part of their search for a new left-back.
All in all, it looks like Manchester United could still be busy with transfers before the window closes!
