Here’s why Barcelona will have the word ‘golf’ on their shirts for the big El Clasico game against Real Madrid.

Barcelona will wear shirts with the word ‘GOLF’ on the front when they play their big El Clasico match against Real Madrid later this month. The game takes place on Sunday, October 25, and the special shirt comes from a partnership between Barcelona, the music streaming platform Spotify, and artist Tyler, The Creator.

Tyler, The Creator is behind the GOLF WANG brand, and his logo will be on the women’s team shirts next Saturday, and on the men’s team shirts the next evening. This is part of a unique collaboration that also includes tracksuits, bomber jackets, t-shirts, and even a match scarf.

Spotify is organizing a music event in Barcelona the day before the game, and fans can get the special shirts in the eFootball game starting Friday, October 23. Only 1,899 “matchday quality” shirts will be sold, plus a few signed by the teams and Tyler himself.

Barcelona’s commercial chief, Marc Soler, said this project connects football, music, and culture in exciting new ways. Having Tyler, The Creator on the shirt adds to the excitement around the game and helps the club reach fans worldwide.

Barcelona’s history with shirt sponsorship is interesting. Founded in 1899, they didn’t sell shirt ads until 2006. From 2006 to 2011, their shirts showed the UNICEF logo for free, supporting the children’s charity. After that, they had sponsors like Qatar Foundation, Qatar Airways, and Rakuten. Spotify has been their sponsor since 2022, and sometimes the shirt features big music names during matches against Real Madrid.

For example, rapper Drake’s ‘October’s Very Own’ brand appeared on Barcelona’s shirt during an El Clasico in 2022. These partnerships blend sports and music in a fun and fresh way for fans to enjoy.
