Four strikers Arsenal might sign, including a Premier League goal scorer, after Viktor Gyokeres says he wants to leave

Viktor Gyokeres has asked to leave Arsenal, and if he does move on in January, Mikel Arteta will have a few options to replace him. On Saturday (October 17), TEAMtalk shared that Gyokeres wants to leave mainly because he hasn’t had much playing time, having only played 56 minutes in the Premier League this season.

The Swedish striker’s role at Arsenal has dropped a lot since he scored 14 league goals last season. Arteta now prefers Kai Havertz as the main striker. With January coming up, Arsenal will probably look to bring in another forward. SPORTbible looks at four players they could sign once the transfer window opens.

First up is Atletico Madrid’s star, Julian Alvarez, who was Arteta’s “dream” signing last summer, but the move never happened. Alvarez wanted to join Barcelona, but Atletico’s CEO made it clear they won’t sell him to their rivals. This means Arsenal might have a chance to sign him in January or next summer when Alvarez wants to move on. So far this season, Atletico’s coach Diego Simeone has mostly used Alvarez as a substitute in La Liga but started him in Champions League games. It seems Alvarez wants a new challenge, and Arsenal will try to persuade him to join.

Next is Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi, who caught Arsenal’s eye last summer after scoring 13 Premier League goals following his £10 million switch from Lorient. Spurs were also interested, but Bournemouth asked for a huge £100 million, which stopped any offers. Kroupi then got a broken foot in August and is expected to be back in early November. That timing might be perfect for Arsenal to try a January bid. Kroupi’s speed and scoring ability would be a great boost for Arteta’s attack. However, Bournemouth don’t want to sell him in January, although if teammate Alex Scott leaves, Kroupi might follow.

Arsenal also signed winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge this summer and may return to Belgium to chase striker Nicolo Tresoldi. According to Italian media Tuttosport, Arsenal are among the favorites to sign Tresoldi, who has scored 32 goals in 69 games for Brugge since moving from Hannover in 2025. The 22-year-old Germany U21 player can link up play and finish well, making him a strong fit alongside Bukayo Saka and Tzolis, and a good challenger for Havertz. But Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are also interested, so Arsenal will face tough competition.

The three players above seem like possible targets for January or later, while Erling Haaland from Manchester City remains a dream signing but only if City face relegation. City could be punished with relegation after being found guilty of many rule breaches. Arsenal have shown interest in Haaland if City are kicked out of the Premier League, and he would likely leave in that case. If City stay up, Haaland’s loyalty might be tested, especially since he just signed a big nine-year deal last year.

In short, Arsenal have some exciting options to boost their squad if Gyokeres leaves, and we’ll see how things unfold when the transfer window opens.
