Boxer storms out of the ring, upset over a ‘robbery’ in British title fight, says Tyson Fury

Boxing has seen its fair share of controversial decisions over the years, from Roy Jones Jr. in the 1988 Olympic final to Amir Khan keeping his title against Paul McCloskey. Now, Tyson Fury thinks there’s been another big controversy, this time in a British title fight.

Daniel Dubois defended his WBO heavyweight world title by winning in the second round when Fabio Wardley’s team threw in the towel. But the real buzz came from a fight earlier on the card.

Fury, who is getting ready to fight Anthony Joshua at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff for the WBA world heavyweight title after Oleksandr Usyk gave up the belt, was closely watching the Dubois vs. Wardley fight. He might face the WBO champion next year if he beats Joshua.

However, Fury called out what he saw as a “robbery” during an undercard fight where Michael Gomez Jr. ended up with a draw against Louie O’Doherty. Fury thought Gomez won most of the rounds and wasn’t happy with the judges. On Instagram, he said: “He only lost two rounds and he won 10, and they’ve given him a draw. That’s a bad robbery. How can you call it a draw? You robbed a lad of his title. Boxing’s messed up. You can’t trust the judges.”

Because of the draw, O’Doherty kept his British and Commonwealth lightweight titles. Gomez Jr. was so upset he walked out of the ring before the decision was even announced. O’Doherty convinced him to come back, but it was clear how frustrated Gomez was. It looks like Gomez might want a rematch to win the title he believes should be his.

As for Dubois, he made quick work of Wardley, knocking him down early and forcing the towel to be thrown in after two minutes and 20 seconds of the second round. Wardley never really recovered from that early hit. Commentators, including Carl Frampton, agreed the decision was right — they tried to let Wardley fight on but then stopped it to keep him safe.

After the fight, Filip Hrgovic, the current IBF heavyweight champ, came into the ring with Dubois, hinting they might face off next.
