Ferrari is shifting focus from F1 to take on a new challenge as they try to break a world record in a different sport.

Ferrari hasn’t won a constructor’s championship since 2008, and the last time one of their drivers became world champion was back in 2007 when Kimi Räikkönen took the title. It’s been a tough 20 years for this legendary Formula 1 team as they work hard to get back to the top and win both championships. But this year, that looks pretty unlikely.

Right now, Ferrari is 134 points behind Mercedes in the constructors’ standings. Lewis Hamilton is 111 points behind the current driver’s leader, Kimi Antonelli, with only six races left. Because of this, Ferrari seems to be focusing on something new — trying to set a world record in a different sport while still facing challenges in F1.

As the most successful team in Formula 1 history with 16 constructor titles, Ferrari has been close but hasn’t won since 2008. Usually, they finish second or third in the championship but adding to their trophy cabinet this season doesn’t seem likely. Instead, they’re probably focusing on building better cars for drivers like Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton to give them a stronger chance in 2027.

But while their main goal is improving their F1 team, Ferrari has also turned its attention to the sea. According to Marca, they have designed an amazing new sailboat with a sleek black and yellow hull that looks almost like a UFO!

This sailboat is huge — it’s 100 feet long (about 30 meters), the same length as a ten-story building laid on its side. When its 40-meter mast and sails are up, it will stand as tall as a football field goalpost.

What makes this sailboat special is how Ferrari applied their car-making skills like aerodynamics, materials science, computer simulation, and control electronics to create a boat that could break a sailing world record. According to 24 Sports, Ferrari aims to sail around the world in under 40 days. Right now, the fastest trip around the globe by sailboat is just over 40 days, set by the Sodebo Ultim 3 as they raced for the Jules Verne Trophy.

This is Ferrari’s first time racing in sailing, but it’s not the first time they’ve explored other sports besides F1. Ferrari started their racing team back in 1929, and by 1932 they also had a motorcycle racing team. In the 1970s, Ferrari famously competed against Ford at Le Mans to prove their racing power, and they also took part in rally racing during the 70s and 80s.

Now, Ferrari is ready to try their hand at sailing, opening a new chapter beyond the racetrack!
