Michael Carrick spots an unexpected Marcus Rashford replacement as Man Utd gets ready to make an offer despite big disagreement

Manchester United has had a tough week, especially after their 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League. But there’s some buzz about a player who could really boost their struggling team.

CaughtOffside reports that Flavio Goncalves, a winger for Sporting CP, is catching the eye of big clubs across Europe. He’s under contract until 2030 and has a release clause of about £50 million. Still, that price might be higher than what Manchester United is willing to pay, but they are getting ready to make an offer.

Goncalves can play on the wing or as an attacking midfielder, which could bring some fresh energy to the Old Trafford squad. With key players like Marcus Rashford not performing well and team captain Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez speaking out about the club, it’s clear the team could use some changes.

Goncalves is a young talent. He only became a regular for Sporting last season and started his first league game in August. So far, he’s scored three goals in ten games. In contrast, Rashford has yet to score in eight appearances this season, in part due to a hip injury.

Goncalves usually plays on the left wing and likes to cut inside onto his right foot. CaughtOffside highlights his quick speed, great dribbling, agility in tight spots, and ability to contribute goals. Both Chelsea and Manchester United have been watching him closely and are expected to make offers to Sporting this January.

Sporting knows Goncalves is a top talent and hopes to keep him long enough to get a bigger transfer fee—possibly up to €100 million in the future—so they won’t want to sell him cheaply or too soon.

Reports say Manchester United and Chelsea might offer between £37 million and £41 million, but it’s unclear what Goncalves prefers. He’s a favorite of Sporting’s manager Rui Borges, but it’s not known if he wants to move to the Premier League now or stay to help Sporting get an even better deal later on.
