Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League game against Brighton might be postponed because of safety worries due to Storm Boelo.

On Sunday afternoon, Liverpool are ready to play a strong Brighton and Hove Albion team at Anfield in their eighth league match of the season. But with Storm Austen already causing trouble and Storm Boelo expected this weekend, there are serious doubts about whether the match will happen.

Liverpool currently sit fifth in the Premier League, with three wins, three draws, and one loss, earning 12 points. Brighton is doing even better, sitting third after winning five games, drawing one, and losing one under coach Fabian Hurzeler. This Sunday’s game promises to be exciting, but the UK Met Office has warned of very windy conditions from midday Saturday until Sunday night, with strong gusts of up to 65mph expected in Merseyside.

The final decision on the match will be made by a Safety Advisory Group, which includes club officials, Merseyside Police, and Liverpool City Council. They will look at the safety of the pitch, players, and fans, especially since roads and trains might be disrupted. Because Storm Austen has already hit Brighton hard, they’ll also consider if it’s safe for Brighton players and supporters to travel.

If the game is postponed, it will have to be rescheduled. This could be tricky because both teams are also playing in the Carabao Cup and European competitions. The earliest likely dates to play the match are in December, depending on how both teams do in the cup. December 15–16 could work, but only if both clubs are out of the Carabao Cup before then. If not, December 22–23 might be an option, since there are fewer matches scheduled during that time.

Liverpool will face Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup, while Brighton will visit Manchester City. If either team reaches the quarter-finals, the rescheduled match would likely be later in December.

It’s worth noting that Liverpool vs Brighton isn’t the only game that might be affected. Across England’s top four leagues, 46 matches and 16 Scottish fixtures are planned for this weekend and could face disruption due to the storms.
