Michael Carrick speaks frankly about the choice to leave Bruno Fernandes out
Manchester United are ready to welcome Bournemouth to Old Trafford this Sunday, aiming for just their second Premier League win of the season.
There’s been a lot of pressure on Michael Carrick lately, especially after their heavy loss to Como in the Champions League. That defeat even prompted club captain Bruno Fernandes to speak up about Carrick’s tactics.
For the upcoming match against Bournemouth, Carrick has decided to leave Fernandes out of the starting lineup and explained his choice.
A win is very important for Carrick—not only to turn the season around but also to secure his job as manager. Before the game, people wondered if Fernandes was dropped because of his comments. Carrick cleared this up in a Sky Sports interview, saying, “It’s about picking the best team for the match. You always have tough decisions to make, and you have to pick the line-up you believe will give the best performance.”
When asked if it was a personal decision, Carrick added, “It was purely football-related.”
Although United are eager for a win, they might feel hopeful given their past results against Bournemouth in the Premier League. They’ve won nine of their first 12 matches against them, which should boost fans’ spirits. However, they haven’t beaten Bournemouth in their last six meetings, so the team knows they need to step up their game at Old Trafford.
Talking about the match, Carrick said, “No matter the level or the club, you need hard work and humility to get results. Bournemouth are a strong team, and we have to be at our best to get a good result. This is our next game, and we’ve prepared for it just like any other. We want to change our recent run and start winning again. Today is a great opportunity to do that.”
