Spanish police have started looking into the death of Tenerife player Jesus de Miguel.

Spanish police are looking into possible involuntary manslaughter after Tenerife player Jesús de Miguel sadly died following a collision on the field with Andorra’s goalkeeper, Jesús Owono.

Near the end of Monday’s match between Tenerife and Andorra, De Miguel was hit in the chest by Owono, who had rushed out of his goal area to clear a long ball.

Tenerife shared that De Miguel was taken to the University Hospital of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria and was first said to be “stable despite the seriousness of his condition.” Unfortunately, his condition got worse, and on Tuesday morning, Tenerife and the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) announced that De Miguel had passed away.

Tenerife’s statement said: “With heavy hearts and in deep pain, we sadly share that Jesús de Miguel Alameda passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. There are no words to comfort us, and nothing can ease this overwhelming sadness. We stand with his grieving family, loved ones, and all of Tenerife who mourn this tragic loss.

The family of Jesús de Miguel is grateful for all the support they’ve received and kindly asks for respect and privacy during this very difficult time.”

Now, Spanish police and prosecutors have started an investigation into possible involuntary manslaughter related to the accident on the field.

According to Spanish news outlet AS, Andorra’s goalkeeper Jesús Owono has been “deeply affected” by De Miguel’s death. The report says that Owono left the pitch to fans shouting “murderer, murderer” at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López. He was also seen crying and praying in the dressing room after the match was stopped.

Owono has closed his Instagram account after receiving many abusive messages. It is also said that Owono wanted to contact De Miguel and his family privately to apologize and offer support before making a public statement, but the situation changed after De Miguel’s passing.

People who know Owono told AS, “He is a kind and caring person. He has no bad intentions.”
