Robert Lewandowski is expected to make an exciting move to a Premier League team.
Robert Lewandowski is expected to move to the Premier League once his Barcelona contract ends this season.
He has been a key player for coach Hansi Flick as Barcelona chases a second straight La Liga title, scoring 13 goals in 14 league games. However, Ferran Torres has become the top forward at the Nou Camp.
Lewandowski’s contract runs out on June 30, and there’s no word yet on whether he will stay in Spain. Rumors say he might follow stars like Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to play in Major League Soccer in the U.S.
Barcelona is also linked with Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, which could mean less playing time for Lewandowski. Juventus has been mentioned as a possible new team, but former player Peter Crouch thinks a Premier League club should try to sign him.
Crouch says Liverpool, his old team, could really use Lewandowski, especially since they have had problems in attack this season. Alexander Isak has missed most of the season with injury, and Hugo Ekitike is out after surgery for a ruptured Achilles. With Mohamed Salah leaving, Crouch believes Lewandowski would be a smart pick, even though he will turn 38 next season.
“It’s a good move for Liverpool,” Crouch told Paddy Power. “He’s a world-class player. He’s not getting younger, but he’d be an amazing option. Isak is just coming back, and I think he’ll do well next year. But who would say no to Lewandowski? He’ll still score goals, no doubt. They’re far from challenging for the title this season, so they’ll need signings, but they can’t keep spending like last summer. The money spent then hasn’t paid off yet.”
Lewandowski recently talked about his contract and says he’s calm about what’s next. He told Sky Sports: “The good thing is I don’t feel pressure. When you’re 30 or younger, you feel differently. Right now, I don’t have to decide. I’m patient. I’ll give myself about three months to figure out what I want. Just me, me alone.”
