Boxing star is excited to take on Thierry Henry with a surprising challenge
A former four-weight world champion has recently challenged Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, just weeks after former heavyweight Malik Scott said he’d help train the French star. Since retiring from professional football in 2014, two-time Premier League winner Henry has stayed in great shape, as shown in a recent Instagram workout video.
The video quickly went viral, with many people saying the 48-year-old looks fitter now than he did back in his playing days. This caught the attention of boxing trainer and former heavyweight champion Malik Scott — who’s married to Henry’s CBS colleague Kate Scott — and he offered his support if Henry ever wanted to try boxing.
“I believe his mental strength and everything he’s overcome would make him a great fighter,” Malik told Action Network. “Not just in boxing, but any sport he chooses.”
Now, a few weeks later, boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. has said he’d be open to doing an exhibition match with Henry if the price was right. Jones, known as one of the greatest boxers ever, has won world titles in four weight classes. The 57-year-old retired in 2018 but made a comeback in 2023.
Speaking with Grosvenor Casino, Jones said, “Would I consider an exhibition with Thierry Henry? Because of who I am and what I do, if the money was right, why not? If someone offered the right amount, I’d definitely get back in shape.”
He added, “I don’t usually get in shape for no reason after all the years of training. But if the offer’s good enough to have some fun and move around in an exhibition, I’d consider it.”
Of course, it’s still unclear if Henry would want to step into the ring for a match like this, but the idea sure is exciting!
