Novak Djokovic has shared an update about whether he’ll play at the 2026 French Open, while reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz’s participation is still uncertain because of a wrist injury.

Alcaraz pulled out of the Barcelona Open last week after hurting his wrist in his first-round match. This has raised questions about if he’ll be able to play in the second Grand Slam of the season.

Alcaraz, currently world number two, won last year’s French Open by beating world number one Jannik Sinner. He said upcoming tests on his wrist will be very important in deciding if he can compete at Roland Garros, which runs from May 24 to June 6.

“We’re doing everything possible to make sure the tests go well,” Alcaraz told Spanish TV. “I’m trying to be patient. We have a few more tests in the next days, and then we’ll see how the injury is and what comes next.”

The young star also said he’d rather come back later healthy than return too early while still hurt.

On the other hand, Djokovic, ranked world number four and with 24 Grand Slam titles, is also dealing with an injury. He recently withdrew from several tournaments, including Monte Carlo, Miami, and Madrid, because of a right shoulder issue. His last match was a loss to Jack Draper in Indian Wells.

Speaking at the 2026 Laureus Awards in Madrid, where he co-hosted with Olympic skier Eileen Gu, Djokovic gave fans an update on his health.

“Yes, I couldn’t play in the Madrid Open, but I’m happy to be here in Madrid again,” he said. “This event is one of my favorites because I get to meet legends from many sports. I’m also excited to present with Eileen this year.”

He added, “I have an injury, and I hope to be ready for Roland Garros. I’m working to be ready for Rome too, but it depends on how the injury heals. At least I plan to be ready for Roland Garros.”

Djokovic hasn’t won a major since beating Daniil Medvedev in the 2023 US Open final.
