Andy Murray was watching closely as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner faced off in the Monte-Carlo Masters final. Alcaraz came in hoping to keep his title, while Sinner wanted to add to his wins at Indian Wells and Miami.

In the end, Sinner won in straight sets, showing why he’s one of the best players in tennis right now. Alcaraz must be feeling down after this loss, especially with Roland Garros just around the corner where he wants to defend his title, which he won after a tough five-set match against Sinner last year.

This was their 17th time playing each other, and the crowd was excited to see who would come out on top. Andy Murray, the former British tennis star, was watching too and even shared some thoughts on social media about how both players needed to handle the tricky wind during the first set.

On X (what used to be Twitter), he wrote: “Both guys are struggling with the wind so far… you need to play more patiently and accept a bigger margin for error in these conditions. The one who adjusts fastest will win.”

After that, Sinner seemed to manage the wind better, winning the first set after a tight tie-break and then cruising through the second set.

Alcaraz will be bothered by this loss; it’s his first defeat on clay in over a year since he finished second at the Barcelona Open. He made a lot of unforced errors—45 in just over two hours—which didn’t help. Meanwhile, Sinner seemed to handle the tough conditions really well.

Alcaraz will want to work on this before the French Open, while Sinner will feel confident about his ability to play well on clay and in tricky weather.

After the match, Sinner shared some thoughts, saying he was happy with how he coped despite the strange, windy conditions. He told the Independent: “It was a very strange match because it was windy and not warm, which makes the ball less bouncy and a bit easier to play tennis in general. I think I served well at the important moments, especially in the tiebreak where I was very accurate.”

He added that both players felt tired by the end, which is normal after a long tournament with high tension. But overall, Sinner said, “It was a good match from both of us. There are small things he will improve for the next time we play, and I need to be ready for that. But now, I just want to enjoy this moment.”
