NBA legend LeBron James was one of many big names speaking out after a football legend was reportedly left off the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026 list.

On Tuesday (January 27), ESPN shared that Bill Belichick, an eight-time Super Bowl-winning coach, didn’t make the Hall of Fame on his first try—even with his amazing NFL record.

The 73-year-old coach, who has 333 wins, didn’t get the 40 out of 50 votes needed to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. The voters are mostly experienced NFL reporters and football experts.

Sky Sports said Belichick learned about this news in a phone call last Friday. The official Class of 2026 will be announced during the NFL Honors ceremony on February 5.

After the news came out, many sports stars and public figures took to social media to speak against the decision. Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes called it “insane” and said he couldn’t understand how it happened in a tweet on X.

LeBron James also shared his feelings on X, writing, “Man, there’s no way I read that right! Right? Ain’t no WAY Bill Belichick ain’t 1st Ballot HOF!! That’s IMPOSSIBLE, EGREGIOUS, and quite frankly DISRESPECTFUL!”

JJ Watt, who played for the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals, added his voice on X too: “I can’t be reading this right. This has to be some knock-off Hall of Fame or something; it can’t be the actual NFL Hall of Fame. There is not a single world whatsoever in which Bill Belichick should not be a First-Ballot Hall of Famer.”

Even former US President Donald Trump called the snub “ridiculous.” On Truth Social, he said, “It is the same mindset that gave pro football the new and unwatchable ‘Sissy’ Kickoff Rule, that made it possible for Bill Belichick to not be elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Both are ridiculous and should be overturned!”

Right now, Belichick is the head coach at the University of North Carolina.
