Luis Enrique made the CBS Sports panel emotional with his comment about Mikel Arteta.
Paris Saint-Germain’s head coach Luis Enrique had everyone laughing during a chat with the CBS Sports team after his team’s exciting 6–5 win on aggregate over Bayern in the Champions League semi-final.
PSG secured their spot in the Champions League final again with a 1–1 draw (6–5 on aggregate) against Vincent Kompany’s Bayern on Wednesday. Ousmane Dembélé scored early, just three minutes in, giving PSG a strong lead over the Bundesliga champions.
PSG’s defense did a great job keeping Bayern’s attackers, like Harry Kane and Michael Olise, from scoring—until Kane finally netted a goal in stoppage time in the second half. But that goal was just a small consolation as PSG set up an exciting final against Arsenal in Budapest on May 30.
After the match, Enrique was in high spirits while talking with the CBS Sports panel, made up of Jamie Carragher, Thierry Henry, Clint Dempsey, Micah Richards, and Kate Scott.
Jamie Carragher, the former Liverpool defender, explained that their panel usually hosts a party before the Champions League final and had invited Enrique. But Enrique politely said no and joked that they should invite Arsenal’s coach Mikel Arteta instead.
He said with a smile, “No, no, no, I won’t be there, but you invite Mikel Arteta. I think he deserves to come a day before the final with you,” which made everyone laugh.
Enrique also talked about their final opponents in a press conference, calling Arsenal “one of the best teams” this season.
He said, “Do I believe we can win the final? Yes.
“After the group stage, I said I didn’t see any team better than ours. Critics doubted us, but I was right.
“Bayern is as strong as we are, and Arsenal has had an amazing year. They’re still fighting for the Premier League too.
“They’re in the final, but I trust my team. It’s important to say that.
“We’ve shown over the last three years that we can play against anyone. You can count on us because we always fight hard.”
PSG will return to Ligue 1 action at home against Brest on May 10.
