Ariel Helwani shares a statement after Daniel Dubois leaves the ‘strangest interview’
Ariel Helwani shared a statement after Daniel Dubois left his podcast interview early. Dubois joined The Ariel Helwani Show to talk about his upcoming WBO heavyweight title fight against Fabio Wardley on Saturday.
The fight will happen at the Co-op Arena in Manchester and is a big deal since all-British heavyweight matches like this are pretty rare these days. Fans were excited, but Dubois’ interview with Helwani caught attention for the wrong reasons on Tuesday night.
Helwani said, “I feel like you don’t like me very much, Daniel.” Dubois asked, “Really? Why do you feel that way?” Helwani replied, “It’s just a vibe I’m getting.” Helwani explained he had supported Dubois during his fight against Joe Joyce and felt he was defending him against unfair treatment by the British media and public.
Dubois disagreed, saying, “That’s bulls**t. I don’t know why you’re bringing that up.” Helwani insisted, “I was on your side and taking hits for you.” Dubois responded, “Thanks, man.” Then, when Helwani asked if Dubois wanted to end the interview, Dubois said yes and started to get up.
The mood got awkward, and Dubois seemed frustrated, mouthing “turn this s**t off” before leaving. Helwani was left saying, “I think he’s out. That was one of the weirdest interviews I’ve ever had.”
Helwani later posted on Twitter to clear things up, saying, “I’ve interviewed Daniel Dubois before and enjoyed it. This one was my fault—I should have done better. Much love and respect to DDD, always. Looking forward to the fight this weekend.”
